Meet Hannah MAY

Hannah May Cumming is a writer, director, and producer originally hailing from Liverpool, UK. She is most known for her short horror films Baby Fever (2022) and Fanatico (2019) both of which are platformed on WatchAlter.com, amassing hundreds of thousands of views. She is the creator of Monstrous Femme Films, a queer-feminist indie horror production company based in Portland, OR. Her work has screened at several prestigious festivals such as Dances with Films, Screamfest LA, Brooklyn Horror Film Festival, FilmQuest, and more, and has won several awards such as Best Director, Best Film, Best Screenplay, Best Actress, Best Production Design, and multiple Audience Choice Awards.

Hannah’s work is an amalgamation of queer and feminist horror, camp, and her love of retro design and fashion. She has a knack for creating highly stylized worlds and fascinating, complex female characters. As seen clearly in her films, Hannah is unafraid to take provocative, creative risks within the horror genre, especially when that work is taking a strong socio-political stance.

In 2022, she and her writing partner, Alex Hartwig, won the Grand Prize from the Killer Shorts Screenplay competition for the Baby Fever screenplay, placing 1st out of 1,551 entries. In 2024, their script for Baby Fever was also nominated for Best Screenplay by New Filmmakers LA.

In 2022, she Associate Produced and Production Supervised the feature film New Life (2024) directed by John Rosman. The film stars Sonya Walger and Hayley Erin, and currently has a 93% score on Rottentomatoes.com.

Hannah also works in the film industry as a Director's Assistant and Production Coordinator. She is based out of both Portland, OR and Los Angeles, CA.
